Useful function remains available while demand continues.
Science
PR5™ integrates relevant evidence from performance psychology, psychophysiology, attention, recovery and skill under pressure without reducing football performance to a single mechanism.
Scientific position
Performance emerges from interacting physiological, attentional, emotional, cognitive, behavioural and environmental processes. PR5™ therefore does not present sympathetic activation as inherently dysfunctional, equate regulation with relaxation, or assume that every performance error has a psychological or autonomic cause.
The model is an applied organising and training structure. Its five functions are not five independent biological systems and they are not a validated linear causal chain. Their value must ultimately be judged by whether they improve professional decisions, football practice and measurable behaviour.
Evidence To Application
Scientific plausibility matters, but applied value is established through observable football behaviour, contextual validity and disciplined evaluation.
Performance Stability
Useful function remains available while demand continues.
Useful function changes appropriately when the demand itself changes.
Useful function returns after meaningful disruption.
Evaluation philosophy
The first professional implementation should establish whether selected outcomes—particularly functional recovery and predefined football behaviours—can be identified with sufficient reliability and contextual validity to support meaningful evaluation.
Null, mixed and ambiguous findings remain evidence. The programme should be refined by what the data and club context show, not by protecting the theory from inconvenient results.

The white paper establishes the model's theoretical position, boundaries, constructs and proposed evaluation pathway.
