PR5™ Performance Model

Five functions.
One performance model.

A football-specific organising and training model for selected aspects of regulation, attention, adaptation, recovery and reorganisation as competitive demands change.

PR5 Performance Model

The performance question

Capability can remain.
Expression can change.

Professional football develops extraordinary technical, tactical and physical capability. Competition then changes the conditions around that capability: time compresses, fatigue accumulates, scorelines alter risk, mistakes disrupt attention and the next action carries greater consequence.

PR5™ provides a practical structure for asking what the player needs to do next. It does not claim that performance has a single cause, or that five functions explain the whole performer. It organises selected trainable functions so they can be developed inside football rather than discussed only away from it.

Functional Response

Recognise the demand.
Organise the response.

The five functions provide a compact applied language for restoring or adapting useful performance as the football problem changes.

The gateway

Recognise what changed.
Then activate what the next action requires.

01

Regulate

Adjust current state towards task requirements.

02

Reorient

Restore attention to what matters now.

03

Recalibrate

Adapt behaviour as competitive conditions change.

04

Recover

Restore useful performance following disruption.

05

Reorganise

Rebuild individual and collective organisation around the next demand.

Complexity in preparation. Simplicity in performance.

Applied inside football

Not a rigid sequence.
A response to the game.

Different situations can recruit different functions in different orders. A post-error episode may emphasise Recover, Reorient and Regulate. A tactical change may demand Reorient, Recalibrate and Reorganise. The football problem determines the response.
